FinePoint is an independent reference site about Victorian traffic fines, penalty units and demerit points. It is not Fines Victoria, it is not a government service, and it has no connection to any Victorian agency or court.

An independent reference site, and nothing more than that
It answers one narrow set of questions about Victorian traffic fines, from the instruments those fines are actually set in.
FinePoint is an independent reference site. It is not Fines Victoria, not a government service, and cannot look up, pay or waive a fine — official services are linked where relevant.
FinePoint exists because the answer to “what is this fine actually made of” is genuinely findable in the legislation, and almost nowhere else is it set out with the provision attached. The figures on this site are not summarised from other sites. They are transcribed from Victoria’s authorised instruments, each with the schedule item or section it came from, and re-checked against those instruments rather than against a consensus.
If what you need is to pay a fine, view a notice, nominate another driver or ask for a review, that is the official service’s job, not ours — the home page routes you there directly. This site holds no records, asks for no identifiers, and cannot see your fine.

Why nothing here applies outside Victoria
This payload covers Victoria only. Australia has no national traffic-fines instrument — road law is state law, and each state prices its own schedule against its own penalty-unit (or flat-dollar) mechanism. New South Wales’ statute portal, its AustLII mirror and its road-safety agency were all unreachable from this build environment when probed (three origins, two security vendors); every other state and territory was not attempted. No figure on this payload may be read as applying outside Victoria.

How it works
Where the figures come from, and how they get onto the page
The short version: a number on this site is either read out of an instrument or derived from one by a rule the instrument itself states — or it is not on the site.
- Every figure is transcribed from a primary sourceVictoria’s authorised versions of the Road Safety subordinate instruments — the schedules that price traffic and parking infringements in penalty units and set the demerit points — plus the Monetary Units Act 2004 and the Department of Treasury and Finance’s gazetted penalty-unit value. Not from another site, not from a summary, and not from memory.
- Every dollar amount is a derivation, not a transcriptionThe instruments state penalties in penalty units; the Treasurer gazettes the unit’s dollar value each financial year. Every dollar figure on this site is its offence’s units multiplied by that gazetted value, rounded as the Monetary Units Act provides — and the build-time validator recomputes every one of those products, so a figure that stops matching its own derivation fails the build.
- Nothing is typed twiceThe pages do not contain amounts. They interpolate them from one payload, so a figure cannot be right in a table and wrong in a sentence two sections down.
- An absence is published as an answerWhere a figure lives outside this site’s sources — the demerit-point suspension thresholds, anything about another state — this site says so, with the search that established it recorded in the payload, instead of quietly filling the gap.
Review status
These values are research-status, and this page says so
Sourced and cited is not the same thing as signed off, and this site does not blur the two.
Every value on this site currently carries research status: it was transcribed from the cited instrument and re-checked mechanically, but the reviewer-of-record has not yet completed the sign-off that this estate requires before a figure counts as verified. That is why the preview banner and the footer’s draft-review note render on every page — they are wired to the sign-off record itself and retire themselves the day it is complete, rather than depending on anyone remembering to remove them.
Until then, the honest instruction is the one the banner gives: check the cited provision, or the notice you were sent, before you act on an amount.

There is no advertising on this site, no affiliate link, no sponsored placement and no lead form. Nothing on it is written to send you anywhere in particular — except to the official service, where that is plainly what you need — and there is nothing for it to sell you.
