This statement is written against the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. It describes what this build of the site actually does — not what a site of this kind might do.

None. There is no account system, no newsletter, no comment form, no contact form and no lookup on this site. It never asks for a name, an email address, a driver licence number, an infringement notice or obligation number, a date of birth or a vehicle plate, and it has no server-side application to receive one if you offered it.

The pages are static reference documents. Nothing you could type anywhere on them goes anywhere, and nothing recorded about your visit identifies you — what is counted is which page was opened, described in full under Analytics below.

This site loads Google Analytics 4 to count visits. Ahead of it, every page carries a single inline consent declaration — a few lines that refuse analytics, advertising and personalisation storage outright, for every visitor in every country, with no regional exception. So the tag runs cookieless: no analytics cookie, and no identifier stored on your device. There is no consent banner here, of ours or Google’s, because nothing is being asked of you; the denial is unconditional rather than a state waiting on your choice.

What Google receives on each page view is the page address, the page you came from, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and your device and browser type. The tag is fetched from googletagmanager.com, so your IP address is visible to Google as part of making that connection — cookieless is not the same as anonymous, and this statement will not call it that. Nothing about your fine, your licence or anything you type is included, because the site never receives any of it in the first place. Google’s own handling of that data is described at policies.google.com/privacy.

If you would rather not be counted, blocking the script in your browser or with an extension leaves every page here working exactly as it does now. The measurement is also switched off entirely for any browser carrying our internal-testing flag, which the cookies page describes.

On an ordinary visit this site writes no cookie and nothing to local storage — the measurement tag above is cookieless. That is why you see no cookie banner: there is nothing to consent to. The one exception is an internal-testing flag that only exists if you deliberately ask for it, and the cookies page names it.

Like any web server, the host serving these pages records ordinary request information — an IP address, the page requested, a timestamp and a user-agent string — for the purpose of operating and securing the service. That is a technical necessity of serving a page rather than a measurement of you, it is not linked to anything else, and it is not used to build a profile.

The Google Analytics tag described above is the only thing loaded from another domain. No third-party font, image or stylesheet is: the typefaces are served from this domain, so no font provider learns that you visited.

Some pages link out to official services — the Victorian Government’s fines and road agencies, and Victoria’s legislation website. Those are ordinary links: following one takes you to somebody else’s site, governed by their own privacy policy and not by this statement.

The Australian Privacy Principles give you the right to ask an organisation for the personal information it holds about you and to ask for it to be corrected. What this site holds is aggregate visit figures that identify nobody and cannot be searched for you — there is no identifier in them to look you up by. So in practice there is nothing to hand over and nothing to correct, but if you believe otherwise, write to info@vicfines.com and you will get a straight answer.

If you are not satisfied with how a privacy matter has been handled, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

This statement is dated below. It is updated when what the site does changes, not on a schedule — and the description of the analytics position in particular is kept in step with the build rather than written to cover a future one.
